Song: Whites of My Eyes

I listened to a podcast today after having a rearrange of my work schedule ... boy some people really should not make bets! Not only do I do the least for this podcast - which is true - but apparently you can say what you like cause I don't listen!

You boys, and I am looking at you, Wemb, Wych, Jeg, Drae and Hyp, have tainted my working environment! I have a group of 3 year olds that I only see once a week and at the end of the session I said to them ... See you next T ... uesday ... Then I felt dirty and bad!

Spent 3 days without my family ... did a lot of heroics, did an Ony raid, that was a little tiresome but some minor tweaks to our shaman's spec (Berat) did wonders and made it look easy.

We did our first 25 man level 80 raid on Sunday, unfortunately due to times, the pugcast boys could not be there

It was fairly successful, although sluggish but I hope that speed will pick up as we go along.

Crazy Train moved into Ulduar, and we rocked it, taking down 5 bosses ... Flame leviathin, XT, Razorscale, Kologor and the Crazy Cat Lady - Auriaya.

Changing the roster on Crazy Train, to reward teh people who do sign up on a regular basis, over those that raid sporadically.

Brought my warlock Teaze over and respecc'd her (haven't played her since we started Rox the Horde). Thanks Wemb and Ashayo for helping me with that.

Decided I will bring Temp, but I will have to try to catch up with a few people to say my goodbyes and still look at her and feel sorry that she won't look the same!

Hi Wych Wemb and Temp,

Wazzagnome 46 blood elf Warlock here, Love the show, makes me laugh so

much I needed more. I started a Deathknight (Doublepleat Pants on head) a

while back but couldn't get into the whole death knight thing. Last week I

took my dirty filthy Gnome Warlock Archabold on the Caelestrasz PVE

server, did a faction change to a blood elf and then a server change over

to Jelly belly. I was excited to have a toon I enjoyed playing in the poh

guild. So far I have been using the new looking for Dungeon feature to get

XP and gear as I have no Idea where to level never playing a horde toon

before past lvl 5. Its all good, having a blast and can't wait to get to

80 and join in some of the POH raids.

Now for my noob moment. I was setting up vent, trying to work out how to

bind the right key for push to talk on my Imac. I was connected to the

Vent server but having issues in wow. I could not get the Push to talk

feature working. So I was trying different things in WOW and Ventrilo. At

the time POH was doing a raid and I decided to sit in and listen while

trying to sort out my little problem. I didn't want disturb the raid so

whenever I tested different things in vent I jumped out of the channel so

you wouldn't hear me messing about while doing the raid thing. Well I had

the opposite effect as whenever I jumped in and out of the channel there

was an announcement that Wazzagnome was entering or leaving the channel.

Temp politely told me to stop it as I was distracting the raid. I quickly

pulled out and laughed at myself for being such a noobish dickhead. No

harm done I think. No I'm not 15 year old Alliance player as April might

suggest but a 31 year old father of 2 looking for a relaxing and enjoyable

game to play.

Catch you on Jelly Belly

Wych,

From two weeks ago "stop your bitching Wych". Hopefully someone else

called you on your tank complaints. Just misdirect, frost trap, and

face roll like a good hunter.

On the other note. Welcome back to the tanking fraternity. Pally tanks

+ dugeon finder = Easy mode. I've had great success on the random

dungeon, particularly with my 70's pally and enjoyed it so much that I

bought a dual-spec for my DK to return to frost tanking after enjoying

leveling with a warrior pet, oopps I mean my perma-ghoul, in unholy.

Can't wait to see what disaster ensues. One warning, though maybe not

an issue for your 'wooo!' style, I got complaints tanking nexus for

not 'chain pulling'. Heaven forbid I take a moment to mana-up or mark.

Nope just 'don't stop'. A note to dps'ers if your tank is moving slow

(I am guilty of this) just pull some mobs (after the healer has 1/2

mana) and see if he/she can handle it. If they do, just keep doing it

and dragging them along. I'm cool with that, plus it's more fun and

challenging. Also means you as the dps are taking some responsibility

in the run, not just complaining about a gearscore or moving too slow.

What do you think? My most enjoyable run on my warrior was heroic CoS,

first time in the instance, a hunter constantly pulling, and nabbing

the bronze drake with with 2 mins to spare.

Good fun. I'm loving the 'best of' episode.

Trinket Itemization and Philosophy

Quote from: Bornakk (Source)

raid item philosophy evolved since vanilla.

tier sets were once considered a badge of honor.

These days, virtually guarantee any player is going to be able to complete at least the lowest level version of their set with just a minimal level of persistence.

powerful reward mechanism in line with philosophy of letting more players see the content.

This design has its risks.

item progression becomes very predictable and deterministic.

you hit the point that you can calculate to the day/week at which you will finish gearing up your character.

this would end up making the purpose of clearing new content very underwhelming.

Trinkets are really the one item (weapons are to a lesser extent) that we use to try and capture that old slot machine feel from the classic Molten Core days. Yes, completely random loot with huge loot tables can be frustrating but we are pretty far from being completely random these days. Trinkets however are still somewhat random, they can be hard to acquire, and there is often a lot of competition for them.

Trinkets are tricky to design

we don’t want them to be just a pile of stats like other items.

We want them to be unique by having a random proc or an on-use ability or something similar.

We don’t necessarily want every trinket to be a guaranteed upgrade because the ilevel is higher. Knowing what works or doesn’t work for your particular character and play style is one of the ways players have to demonstrate their mastery of the game.

There are some aspects of trinkets we think we can do better.

it’s annoying when a superior item is on a lower tier of content to where you feel like you have to argue with your guild to go back and farm easy bosses or run a 10 player version when everyone else wants to do 25. Many of the trinkets probably represent too big a dps (or equivalent) jump given how difficult it can be to acquire them. It’s also easy for us to fall into a rut of offering basically the same one every time (often because we know players like it) rather than experimenting with different things. We like to try new things to keep gear interesting for players as we know some have been evaluating trinkets for over five years now.

We also probably just need to drop more of them. That doesn’t mean they should be trivial to acquire, but when say a caster only has 2 good options in Ulduar and 1 requires a hard mode, then there is going to be ton of competition when they do drop. We know it’s rough when the trinket you have been wanting finally drops and you have to roll against 10 other people for it. Having more trinkets would mean more variety, which means players may want different ones and ultimately will be a little more different from their friends/guildmates.

Talent Trees in Cataclysm

Quote from: Ghostcrawler

I was going to bump this to the General forum, but I think the talent tree comment is worth addressing in the role forums, since it applies to class design.

1) We are changing talent trees, in some cases substantially. The major focus is pruning out boring but valuable talents that passively increase say damage or healing.

2) A secondary focus is to fix the clunky areas (e.g. warlocks having two conflicting range increasing talents). We're not going to remove old favorites or radically change the focus of the trees. You will definitely have to rethink your builds however.

3) Because you earn passive bonuses just for spending points in the tree, those fun, niche or utility talents won't seem as expensive as they do today. We want to create a lot more choices where you are choosing utility vs. utility. We want to see far more "cookie cutter" build guides that say "Spend the last 5-10 points where you want."

4) In some cases, trees will flat out get new abilities. These are in addition to the new level 81+ abilities.

5) You will get 5 additional talent points for the new levels.

6) We are not deepening the trees. This actually unlocks some interesting opportunities. For the first time, you can reach a 51 point talent and a 21 point talent in another tree.

I'll also add that for Lich King we just brought Naxxramas back and adjusted the bosses for 10 and 25 raid sizes. The Cataclysm raids are new content with new maps and new bosses. We're just trying to hit the nostalgia button with mentioning old foes like Ragnaros. Ragnaros may be back, but he's not in Molten Core.

New Arena season starts tonight, which means there is a new VOA boss, so possibly a mini patch coming down tonight ... So the new boss is Toravon the Ice Watcher - he will drop tier 10 gloves and legs and 2 frost emblems!

Death Knights tanking

Your understanding in this case does not appear to mesh with reality. There are still plenty of DK tanks in Icecrown.

The death knight was a new class with a lot of cool abilities, lore and a great starting experience. It doesn't surprise me at all that a lot of players flocked to them. When it turned out they were overpowered in dps, PvP and tanking early on in Lich King, that probably encouraged more players to pick them up or stick with them. So it's natural that after several patches the numbers have evened out a bit more, but there are still plenty of DKs and they seem to be doing just fine tanking Icecrown. We'll see if things look different when the hard modes unlock. If DKs (of appropriate gear and skill) struggle on those fights, we'll buff them. http://blue.mmo-champion.com/26/22749239136-class-equality.html
